Experience The Cowboy Life in Cave Creek

by: Charlene | Active Date, Family Friendly Date, Over 55 Date, Adventurous Date, Fun Date

Spend a weekend day exploring the cowboy life still available in Cave Creek, just north of the metropolitan Phoenix area.

Start your day early with a hike through Spur Cross Ranch Conservation area, and explore the creek that gives the town its name. It's an amazing area, and very different from the surrounding desert.

Stop in at the Cave Creek Museum and learn about the early history of this town. But check on the museum hours. It is staffed by volunteers and has limited availability.

By lunch, you will be hungry, so take your appetite over to the Horny Toad where they serve the best burgers in town, but only during the lunch menu (which ends at 4 pm).

After filling your stomach, take some time to visit the shops that specialize in cowboy home decor, like Valeries. There are many other similar shops along the road, so stop in anywhere that catches your fancy, partner. Be sure to hit the Hollywood Cowboy and see the original movie posters from classic westerns, perfect for a den or home theatre.

Ride back into town about sunset, and enjoy the view as you come down around Black Mountain.

Remember your cowboy/cowgirl manners, and show your date a great time. You'll leave him or her wanting another trip to an exotic slice of Phoenix.
